Spiders Most Commonly Found Around Homes In Dallas Fort Worth Area
Spiders, whether good or bad, are not welcome in my home. I don't like them. Though not all are venomous, most can/will bite, especially if they feel threatened. We found this chart that will help you identify common household spiders, those found in and around our Dallas-Fort Worth homes, and what to do if bitten by one.
The wolf spider - pictured to the left - carries hundreds of babies on its back in an egg sac. If you see this one around your home, think twice before crushing it, as the babies scatter when you step on the carrier. I've made this mistake...once. (Yuck!)
The ever-feared brown recluse is pictured bottom right. These spiders are much smaller than you think, but are recognizable by the violin (or fiddle) shape at their head. The brown recluse has a necrotic venom and is one of only two spiders (the other being black widow) in North America whose bites usually require medical attention, though most bites are minor with no necrosis.
There are more than a dozen common spiders found in and around homes or gardens in North Texas. Don't forget to check out this chart of spiders for additional information and helpful images. Remember, regularly scheduled pest control service is always a good idea. Call us if you would like recommendations on local companies.
