Homeowners Must Dispute Property Taxes Before May 31st
North Texas homeowners have watched their property values steadily rise over the past few years. Many of us were in for a big surprise when we received our 2016 tax valuation statement this week. Collin County home values rose tremendously, but other counties saw big climbs too.
Disputing taxes is not difficult, but the process is very specific - make sure you understand the timeline and procedure. As with most things, documentation and good record-keeping will strengthen your appeal. Every home is different, every home is unique, so don't make the mistake of comparing your home's estimate to your neighbor's - it's not that simple.
